Cross-domain AI support: From requirements to testing.
Posted on May 29, 2026
From April 27 to 29, 2026, REConf 2026 took place in Munich under the theme "RE – the Conductor of Systems Engineering". The research project KIMBA presented current approaches for supporting systems engineering through artificial intelligence at this specialist conference.
Representatives of the KIMBA consortium - including experts from RWTH Aachen University, the BMW Group, and CSE Aachen - presented practical case studies and research results during the event.
The focus was on exchanging experiences regarding cross-domain AI support in practice and the bidirectional optimization of requirements, system models, and test cases in the development process. Two central questions were discussed:
1. How do we design this new working world so that the engineer becomes a sovereign orchestrator and active "co-creator"?
2. How do we ensure that AI agents, with their own data truths, do not scale our human information distortion errors, which often occur via copy & paste in real time?
In addition, the following technical innovations of the project were presented at the conference:
Automated Modeling: Generation of system models directly from requirements in SysML v2.
AI-Powered MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering): Tools that enable non-tool experts to access MBSE knowledge and system models.
Intelligent Assistance: Use of AI chatbots for evaluating system models and automated test case generation.
